redefiningCHAMPION
Coaching Philosophy, Program Vision, Personal Calling

Servant leadership is a practical philosophy, developed by Robert K. Greenleaf, which, in its simplest terms, defines people who serve first and do so altruistically. Servant leaders choose to lead, whether in a formal position or not, after they have ensured the basic needs of others have been met. The redefined champion is concerned with the needs of others over his own; this is evidenced not only in his commitment to service, but in his integrity, attitude, and priorities. Because we are preparing future leaders who would embody this philosophy, it is incumbent upon us to encourage them to serve selflessly.
redefining CHAMPION through Service
Although many may want to be champions, many become so self-consumed and record-focused that they lose sight of the needs of their fellow man. The redefined champion recognizes the importance of service and its relationship to a successful life on and off the field.
Whom do we serve? We serve the poor, weak, needy, widows
Where do we serve? Start with the areas of greatest influences.
-
our team: through care and prayer the team will minister to each other.
-
our campus: the greater campus community, residence hall, intramurals, fca, chapel.
-
our local community
-
our state
-
our nation
-
at home during the summer
-
at camps
-
where we travel
Service: in Summary
While we build a program intentionally around the concept of redefining champion, we are simultaneously preparing student-athletes to be contributing members of society. Regardless of how successful they are academically and athletically, if they do not understand their role in the greater community, their individual and team successes are meaningless. When student-athletes put the basic needs of others first by participating in, enjoying, and encouraging other to participate in service, we have developed compassionate people who can and will change the world. We have redefined champion.
